Tucked away on a quiet oak lined street, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center is the best kept secret in Dunedin! Former Mayor, John Doglione, stated that this Center had "come from neighborhood action - neighbors helping neighbors, and neighbors joining together to make our city better." We'd love to have you become part of our community and check us out! Primarily a youth based center, The MLK, Jr. Recreation Center offers unique programming for tweens and teens including R.A.P Night, Reel Adventures, Teen Night Live, and The Happening with the goal of providing a safe, positive environment to "hang out." The Center also offers programming for all ages including health and fitness classes such as Okinawan Karate and Self Defense.

Facility Features & Amenities
The facility features teen and game rooms, gymnasium, computer lab and classroom. The outside grounds feature a state of the art playground, lighted basketball courts and a covered picnic area with tables.

youth advisoryYouth Advisory Committee
The Youth Advisory Committee addresses issues affecting youth and teens of our community. Meetings are held every third Thursday of the month at 6:30pm at the MLK Center. Meetings are open to the public.

Gymnasium
We take pride in our indoor regulation size hardwood basketball court. The gym features six hoops that can be retracted when needed, four of which can be lowered to a super low height of 7'6" for those future NBA players. Our gym also provides bleachers for spectators to watch activities like our basketball leagues or sports tournaments.

Teen Room
A pool table, ping pong table and Dance Dance Revolution machine are prominent fixtures in this room. We also provide teens with a monster flat screen TV. Play X Box, Kinect, or Wii, relax on the couch or challenge your friend to a game of Apples to Apples or mancala.

Playground
Come check out the new playground designed with the help of the Youth Advisory Committee! The playground at the MLK Center has state of the art equipment including a large play structure with "pods", "jacks" and "DNA" for imaginative climbing and jumping. It also features a bouncing balance beam, a pair of swings that can accommodate up to four kids at once, a good old fashioned merry-go-round, and a large space net for climbing fun. Our lighted basketball courts allow a great game of basketball after dark. Any playground couldn't be complete without a covered picnic area.
